You might think that a 70 degree day in the middle of winter is a blessing, and you would be right. But you would also, perhaps, neglect to think about what it does to the psyche when the temperature plummets back into the 30s three days later. My (admittedly mild) Seasonal Affective Disorder does weird things to my brain chemistry, and I experience feelings of elation on unseasonably warm days, which leads to a kind of manic state and then depression a day or so later. I am thankful that it is manageable enough that I can track my emotions by the weather and use that information to cut myself some slack. But between that and a very strange week at the thrift shop (someone stole our mannequin in broad daylight and a customer spotted it in front of a gun shop the next day! It – her name is Marlene, btw – and the perpetrator are still at large), I didn’t have the most productive week.

That being said, I did enjoy the brief summer, taking a windows-down road trip to Target to pick up some SW Basics cream, stopping into Madewell to try on their fair trade denim, and meeting with a colleague for coffee.

I also got the chance to take these Everlane glove flats for another whirl, after they cut my ankles pretty badly on my trip to Florida. I added moleskin and found them a little more tolerable, though not perfect, this time around. The Madewell manager was wearing the same shoes in a different color, so we bonded over that.

A note on these trousers: I saved up some Christmas money for a little Lowie shopping spree after learning about the UK-based brand from the Buy Me Once website. These denim trousers were a little large at first (I ordered the Medium), so I decided to throw them in the dryer and now they fit perfectly! The only downside is that I have to unbutton ALL the buttons on both sides in order to use the restroom. Sigh. What we do for fashion.

In other news, I’m really excited that I’ll be getting new glasses soon! I’m trying out Retrospecced, a company that purchases used and vintage glasses from charities and replaces the lenses with your own prescription. I’ll be sharing my “home try-on” soon. I really like my current glasses, but it’s time for another eye exam, so hopefully I’ll find a “new” pair I love.
