Barrel Jeans and a Beret
I bought these barrel jeans somewhat impulsively after seeing “balloon jeans” on several bloggers. If you haven’t heard about the trend, several companies – including Madewell, Levi’s, and Agolde – have come out with a style of denim that fits closely at the waist, then curves outward through the thigh before tapering again at mid-calf.
Because I tend to find a better fit in Curvy cuts, when I stumbled upon these barrel jeans that came in Curvy, I snatched them up. Barrel jeans are similar in cut to the balloon style, but the curve on the outer seam tends to be less pronounced. As you can see, however, in a size 10-Curvy, the effect is quite similar.
I paired the barrel jeans with a beret from a maker who makes berets for larger heads (lol), which I need. I didn’t really factor in that it would completely cover my hair. It’s definitely a look. I’m trying to embrace it rather than feel self-conscious.

Spring Fever
This week, I’m experiencing a strong sense of spring fever. With a spate of mild weather and sunshine, I’ve opened my windows to birdsong several days this week. There’s a big park about a mile from my apartment, and I’ve been making a point to walk there at least twice a week. Last week, I walked 7 1/2 miles in one day!
I’ve had increasingly poor body image throughout the last year, and having to stare at myself on a Zoom screen all day hasn’t helped. Being able to get outside – even if only for fifteen minutes – makes me feel more aware of, and grateful for, my body. It gives me a sense of trust that I can keep moving forward, step by step.

Uniqlo had this cut of trousers. I thought the more pronounced cut was reminiscent of styles I’d seen worn by classic movie actresses of the 40s. I love the look!
You’re right! People keep comparing them to denim from the 80s, but especially in this lightweight denim, they look very 40s.
