If you have sensitive or dry eyes, Versed Day Lash Lifting + Defining Mascara is the first mascara I’ve found in years that doesn’t make me rub my eyes or pull at my lashes. After six weeks of daily wear, it remains comfortable, doesn’t flake, holds a curl well, and gives a natural look.

Why I Stopped Wearing Mascara for Years

As a teenager, I had no trouble wearing eye makeup. I was loyal to Great Lash Mascara like so many millennials, and loved to play around with makeup looks. But sometime in my mid-twenties, my eyes became a dry, itchy problem.

I incorrectly diagnosed myself with allergies more than a decade ago. After a recent allergy panel, I learned that I don’t have allergies! At all! But I do still have dry eyes and use Restasis eye drops. My optometrist recently told me that I likely have dry eyes because of my eye anatomy. Turns out, big eyes can cause tear distribution issues.

Anyways, as my eyes got more irritated, I stopped wearing mascara. But every few months, I would do some research and try again. I have probably wasted over a hundred dollars trying mascaras that didn’t solve the problem. And, before you ask, I even tried tubing mascara, but it made the skin around my eyes sting!

What is Versed?

I found Versed through an Instagram ad announcing that you could buy their products at Target. Curious, I did a little research and learned that Versed (also known as Versed Skin) is a sister brand of social media favorite, Merit. But it’s offered at a lower price point

Versed is specifically advertised as safe for sensitive skin. I liked that the product shots of their mascara had a natural, “no-makeup makeup” look. I was almost out of my standard Elf brow gel and also looking for a cream eyeshadow, so I added those things to my cart, as well. I was hopeful, but prepared to be disappointed.

My Honest Versed Review After Six Weeks

After using these products nearly every day for six weeks, I feel that I can provide an honest, thorough review. Read on to learn what I like and don’t like about Versed makeup products.

Versed Day Lash Lifting + Defining Mascara

This mascara is perfect. It doesn’t dry crunchy, it helps your lashes hold a curl, and it doesn’t flake at all. The applicator also keeps the product from going on too thick.

For the first time in many years, I do not spend all day rubbing my eyes and pulling at my eyelashes while wearing mascara. The only downside of Versed mascara is that it isn’t waterproof. So try not to cry while wearing it (I skip it when I need to attend funerals for my job).

Versed Easy Brow Gel

I feel like every brand is trying to make a brow product as good as Glossier’s Boy Brow. Though the name and container reminds me of Boy Brow, this product is actually much different. It’s creamy, thick, and has a more matte application. It does an excellent job defining brows with precision without making them too hard.

The one issue I have with Versed Brow Gel is that it’s very goopy on the wand, and gets goopier as it ages. I really have to wipe off additional product from the applicator before applying to avoid transferring clumps onto my brows.

Versed Sheer Stay Liquid Eyeshadow

I rarely wear eyeshadow for the aforementioned sensitivity reasons. But when I do, I try to find a product that won’t flake, drop, or shed into my eye. The only problem is that liquid shadows often cause skin irritation. I purchased the Versed Liquid Eyeshadow in the color Haze (Cool Violet). On my skin, it reads a lot taupe-ier than described, but I like the definition it gives if I’m not going to wear mascara that day.

Application is a little tricky with this product because it’s a sheer, very wet formula. I typically dab a small amount on one eyelid, smooth and blend with my ring finger, then wash my finger before repeating on the other eye. Otherwise, there’s too much extra transfer from my finger and one side reads darker than the other. The product has reasonable staying power as long as you don’t touch your eyes, but I would probably recommend setting it with powder if that doesn’t cause irritation for you.

As you can probably tell, I am now a lifetime customer of Versed Skin’s mascara. While the other products I tried have some formulation issues that impact ease of application, the fact that they cause no irritation and achieve a nice, natural result appeals to me.

For those interested primarily in the Mascara, here are my final thoughts…

Buy Versed Mascara if you:

  • have sensitive skin or dry eyes
  • are looking for a vegan mascara
  • prefer a natural, no-makeup makeup look
  • often have issues with mascara flaking into your eyes
  • are looking for a more affordable alternative to Glossier Boy Brow

You can purchase Versed products directly from their website or at your local Target.
